In Memory of Todd Newton

This post is to commemorate Todd Newton - a fellow diabetic, an unforgettable human being and a truly wonderful friend.

Living with diabetes every day of your life becomes the norm after a while. Amongst the routine of injections and blood testing, it's easy to forget that diabetes is a potentially dangerous disease. Insulin has to be respected and understood - it saves lives, but it also has the power to take them away.

Last year Todd did a guest blog post on 'Diabetic Dais' about his diabetic story. Last night, at the age of 22, Todd passed away as a result of his type 1 diabetes. Despite having a chronic illness, he lived his life to the full. I don't recall a single day when he wasn't full of energy and his undeniable enthusiasm for life was almost contagious. So many things will always remind me of Todd: the song 'RiverSide' by DJ Sidney Samson, apple sourz shots, lollipops and red wedged heels to name but a few. Our diabetes brought us together but, in the end, it was trust, appreciation and uncontrollable laughter which created our friendship. I will miss him, I will never forget him and I will always love him.

A quote Todd uses on the 'about me' section of his Facebook profile is: "If we could live without passion, maybe we'd know some kind of peace, but we would be hollow. Without passion, we'd truly be dead." I can honestly say that, with the amount of passion Todd had in his heart, he will always live on.

Rest in peace, Todd

  3. Todd was and will always be my best friend. Me and Todd did everything together there was only a few times wen we were apart. Todd was the bestest friend any one could wish for, he could always put a smile on your face when you felt down. Todd was the life and soul of every party or night out that we went on, the best nights were our spontaneous nights they were the greatest. I will treasure all those times we had together and thankyou for all the laughs that we had together your one amazing guy.

  4. Me & todd never saw eye to eye in school and we very much disliked each other. As we got older we began to realise the petiness between our hatred and began to build a relationship. So sad to say i never got to see what a beautiful person todd truly was inside and out but from what i know he was a great guy! R.I.P Todd, we will meet again <3 xxx

  5. How tragic! I'm so sorry to hear of this. The effects of diabetes can indeed be terrible. There are several members of my family who have to live a diabetes lifestyle, and there's always the fear that something like this might happen.

  6. i have just come across this blog.. im so sorry to hear about it.. As i myself being a type 1 diabetic too, i know how hard it must have been for Todd. I am 21 years old and i have been through so much cause of diabetics. i went in a coma and was on life support for 3 days and spent nearly a whole month in i.c.u, have damaged kidneys, acute pancreatitis... this blog has really inspired me, i have tears rolling down my cheeks as im writing this. May Todd's soul rest in peace... he's now in a better place now, in the hands of God. May God bless you and your family. Really appreciate this from the bottom of my heart.
